On Reading The Bible After
a poem about approaching scripture
First, open your eyes
to look past the in-between
the lines where we keep our
histories and wounds.
Then listen to each letter
seeking a truth that echoes
down the sentence structure,
something we’ve never heard
all the times before.
Finaly believe what can
be said is what is being
said, plain readings and
contextual highlights.
Read without verse numbers.
Read without chapter headings.
Read without fear, for literature
cannot hurt you.
That is reserved for the pulpit.
